Cross Country

After a 20-year pause, MHC re-started the varsity cross-country running program in September 2020.  Since that time, the cross-country team quickly re-established itself as one of the teams to beat in ACAC competition. Significant highlights since 2020 have included the 2022 Rattlers women’s team winning the ACAC Championship and MHC hosting the 2022 CCAA National Cross Country Running Championships.

The ACAC cross-country running season runs from early September to mid-November every year.  The team typically competes in three or four pre-championship ACAC races in September and October over 8 km for men and over 6 km for women.  The ACAC Championships take place on the last Saturday in October followed by the CCAA Championships two weeks later.

Twelve student-athletes (six men and six women) represent MHC in championship races, although the roster typically includes a few extra team members who are able to train with the squad and compete in some of the pre-championship races.

Varsity cross-country runners at MHC have come from a variety of sporting backgrounds. While many past team members had run competitively in high school, others have come from other sporting backgrounds including basketball, soccer, volleyball, and curling.  In addition, not all cross-country runners have been recent high school graduates – the team has had mature students as old as 42 years old compete for MHC.
