Cross Country Season Recap 2023-24

Cross Country Season Recap 2023-24

Following a championship season in 2022, the Rattlers Women's Cross Country team had big shoes to fill in 2023. While they made it to the CCAA Nationals for the third year in a row, they couldn't quite match last year's outstanding performance.

Led by the dynamic duo of Becky Ross and Maddy Scrimger, the team had several top 3 finishes in ACAC action leading up to the Championships in October. Ross earned a Silver Medal and Scrimger placed 5th, repeating their All-Conference performances from last year. Ross's medal is only the second individual medal in program history, with the last top 3 finish in 1981.

In the ACAC team competition, the Rattlers women finished 4th, just 3 points shy of a bronze medal. At the CCAA Nationals in Truro, Nova Scotia, Scrimger led the team with a 14th place finish, while Ross, battling an injury, along with Pyper Gill and Mizuki Iwata, helped the team place 13th overall.

The Rattlers men had another solid season, finishing 6th at the ACAC Championship. Third-year runner Shintaro Iwata led the way in 25th place, followed by rookie Spencer Wilson in 28th.

At the 2023-24 MHC Athletic Awards banquet, the Rattlers Cross Country Running awards were presented to:

Rattler Award – Pyper Gill

Rookie of the Year – Mizuki Iwata

Most Valuable Player – Becky Ross

Since being re-established in Fall 2020, the Rattlers Cross Country Running program has become one of the top teams in the ACAC. The runners are looking forward to the 2024 season with high hopes for both individual and team medals at the Conference Championships.
