Women's Hockey 2023-24 Season Recap

Women's Hockey 2023-24 Season Recap

Following an exhibition season last year, the Rattlers Women's hockey team made its official ACAC debut on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at home with their first regular season game. Though the team fell short with a 2-0 score against NAIT, a new era in Rattlers women's sports had begun.

The 2023-24 season presented its share of challenges for the young Rattlers. Despite a slow start to the season, the team's perseverance paid off in Game 25, the season finale at home against SAIT. In a thrilling back-and-forth battle, Kennedy King scored the go-ahead goal with 31 seconds remaining, leading the Rattlers to a 4-3 victory and their first-ever ACAC win.

Throughout the year, the Rattlers' goaltenders were called upon to make big saves. Kinlee Fahselt distinguished herself by recording 351 saves over the season, ranking fifth among all ACAC goalies. Fahselt's accomplishment was even more impressive considering she only appeared in 11 of the team's 25 games.

At the 2023-24 MHC Athletic Awards banquet, the Rattlers Women's hockey awards were presented to the following players:

Rattler Award – Amy Berg

Rookie of the Year – Geneva Strutt

Most Valuable Player - Kennedy King

Additionally, for their tenacity on the ice and outstanding contribution to the community, the Rattlers Women's hockey team was named the Rattlers Team of the Year.

It is often said in sports, "You are only as good as your last game." If this wisdom holds true, the 2024-25 Rattlers Women's hockey team has a lot to look forward to.
