Indoor Track Season Recap 2023-24

Indoor Track Season Recap 2023-24

Since debuting in ACAC Indoor Track in 2022, the MHC tracksters have shown steady progress in each of the last three seasons.  The 2023-24 team again upped the ante by establishing nine school record times and winning a total of five individual and relay medals at the ACAC Championships

The team competed in two ACAC meets and one local meet prior to the ACAC Championships in March. In ACAC #1 in January, the MHC women placed 3rd in the team standings, while in ACAC #2 in February, the Rattlers finished third in the combined team standings.

At the ACAC Championships, Maddy Scrimger delivered a performance for the ages winning individual silver medals in the 1500m and 3000m and a bronze medal in the 1000m.  Scrimger also ran a legs on MHC’s bronze medal winning 4 x 200m relay with Annika Marshall, Kabri Stickel, and Brooklyn Kaczynski. Collectively, these finishes earned Scrimger 2024 ACAC All Conference status for Indoor Track.

The Rattler men also notched a pair of near-miss podium placings at the ACAC Championships. The quartet of Colton Robinson, Justin Jager, Shintaro Iwata, and Ryker Leipert placed fourth in both the 4 x 200 and 4 x 400 relays.

In the ACAC team competition, the Rattlers placed 4th in the combined team standings, based on a fourth place finish for the women and a fifth place finish for the men.

At the MHC Athletic Awards banquet, the Rattlers Indoor Track awards were presented to the following runners:

Rattler Award – Gage Smith
Rookie of the Year – Colton Robinson
Most Valuable Player – Maddie Scrimger

Scrimger was also named the 2023-24 MHC Female Athlete of the Year for her indoor track and cross country running performances.

Like the Rattler Cross Country team, the Indoor Track team is a relatively new addition to the ACAC, but the young team has established itself as one of the top programs in the conference. The indoor track runners look to continue to improve in the next season starting in January 2025.
