Weekend Recap - Oct 4-6

The Rattlers had a busy weekend across women's hockey and soccer. Here’s a full breakdown of the results:

 


FRIDAY

Women's Hockey

The Rattlers kicked off their season with a thrilling shootout win at home against SAIT. Rookie goalie Anna Stewart played all 70 minutes, making an incredible 46 saves, including stopping four shootout attempts. Brooklyn Siemens secured the win by scoring the decisive shootout goal, while Gabby Hales put the Rattlers on the board in the first period with 10:51 remaining. The game, held at Moose Arena, marked the home opener for the Rattlers, who will return to the ice at Moose Arena on October 18 at 7 pm. Player of the game was #21 Brooklyn Siemens.


SATURDAY

Women's Soccer

The Rattlers earned a solid 2-1 win over the Ambrose Lions. #19 Olivia Bender, assisted by #23 Abby Lalach, scored the first goal at 14 minutes, while #2 Alexis Ratke, assisted by #7 Keeley Zambon, added a second at the 58-minute mark. Ambrose Lions managed to score their only goal in stoppage time (90+ minutes). The match was held at home, with the next home game being the last of the season on October 14 against the Lethbridge Kodiaks. The Rattlers took 14 shots, with 6 on goal, and the player of the game was #6 Audyn Mettauer.

 

Men's Soccer

The men’s team extended their winning streak with a commanding 4-1 victory over the Ambrose Lions. #12 Joao Cintra opened the scoring, assisted by #17 Erik Amberson, at 1-0. At 32 minutes, #2 Diego Manrique added a second goal, assisted by Cintra. Though Ambrose responded with a goal at 50 minutes, the Rattlers quickly regained momentum, with #21 Ghaiel Miranda scoring at 68 minutes, assisted by Cintra, followed by a fourth goal from #8 Tata Mugisha, assisted by #20 Ashraf Ismail. The Rattlers had 30 shots, with 9 on goal. The player of the game was #2 Diego Manrique.


SUNDAY

Women's Hockey

In a tight contest, the Rattlers held SAIT to a 0-0 tie until the final minute of the third period, when the Trojans scored the game-winning goal. Rattlers goalie Jessika Charron made 35 saves, while the team managed 24 shots on goal in a hard-fought game. The player of the game was #30 Jessika Charron.
