Men's Soccer Splits with SAIT & Lethbridge; Women Drop Final Two Matches

The soccer season wrapped up this weekend for the men & women with games against two playoff bound programs in SAIT & Lethbridge. On the men's side the men fell 1-0 to the #3 nationally ranked Trojans at home. Maksymilian Slaweta (2nd year, Bydgoszcz, Poland, General Studies) made three saves in the loss. The loss brought an end to the home schedule for the Rattlers as they headed down highway 3 on Sunday to battle the Lethbridge Kodiaks. In a rainy, snowy, and cold day the men battled for a 4-2 win against the playoff bound Kodiaks. The team was led by Tata Mugisha (1st year, Moose Jaw, SK, Criminal Justice) who scored three goals in the game and De'Shaunt Gelinas-Cato (1st year, Regina, SK, Kinesiology) added the insurance tally for the men.

As for the women they battled hard against the top 2 teams in the south that are both qualified for the conference championships. On Saturday the ladies fell 2-1 to the #13 SAIT Trojans. Maisa Rebello (4th year, Rio de Janeiro BRA, Business) scored the lone goal as she pounced on a rebound in the SAIT penalty area and scored near post. Abby Lalach (1st year, Cranbrook, B.C., Education) made 6 big saves in the loss. On Sunday the team went to Lethbridge to take on the Kodiaks. Abby once again played well in goal as she made 13 saves to keep the Rattlers in the match. Keandra Leslie (1st year, Kingston, JAM, UT Science) scored the lone goal for the women in the loss.

While this brings an end to the soccer season for both the men and women, there were plenty of positives on the season to build on for the next season and for seasons to come. We look forward in taking our next step for the program.
