Rattlers Women's Soccer gets a split; Men's Soccer Tames Lions

The women's soccer team rolled into Camrose for a battle with the University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings on Saturday. It seemed to be one-way traffic with the Rattlers dominating every stat except for the goal tally. In a game where the Rattlers outshot the Vikings 21-4 it was the Vikings who took the lead in the 65th minute on a goal by Elle Popiel who put it past goalkeeper Rylan Morhart (1st year, Moose Jaw, SK, General Studies) for the lead. The relentless pressure continued for the Rattlers but a last minute save by the Vikings keeper kept the score 1-0 as a final score.

The ladies looked to rebound on Sunday as the winless Ambrose Lions came to town for an afternoon matinee. An early own goal followed by a solo run by Alivia Rybchinski (1st year, Saskatoon SK, Social Work) put Rattlers were up 2-0 just 14 minutes in. Kaylie Hole (4th year, Medicine Hat, AB, General Studies) & Jaycee Berggren (1st year, Swift Current, SK, Pre-Dental Hygiene) each added goals in the first half- 36th & 41st minute respectively- to make the score at the half 4-0. The goals kept coming in the second half as Keandra Leslie (1st year, Kingston Jamaica, UT Science) scored two, plus goals from Maisa Rebello (4th year, Rio de Janeiro, BRA, Business Administration) & Molly Morris (3rd year, Moose Jaw, SK, Education) contributed to the 8-0 win. Rylan Morhart didn't need to make any saves but still got the win and the shutout.

The men only had one game which took place on Sunday against the Ambrose Lions. For the first time all season the men got on the board first with a goal in the 9th minute by Jire Nzeyimana (2nd year, Kigoma, Tanzania, General Studies) to give the Rattlers the lead. The lead was short lived as 8 minutes later the Lions tied it up on a goal by Ben Brouwer. That score held until halftime where in the 2nd half it was all Rattlers. Outshooting the Lions 10-3 in the final 45 minutes, the men finally broke through in the 76th minute on a goal by Tata Mugisha (1st year, Moose Jaw, SK, Criminal Justice). Just three minutes later the Rattlers would get an own goal by the Lions to make it 3-1. Joel Lehr (1st year, Medicine Hat, AB, Kinesiology) would seal it for the Rattlers with a rebound header in the 89th minute to secure all three points and a 4-1 win
