Valk Goes Back-To-Back; Women tie for 2nd

Day 2 of the ACAC Golf South Regional started how it finished on Day 1 with the wind being a major issue for the competitors to deal with. Michael Valk (4th year, Medicine Hat, AB, Power Engineering) (MHC) managed to conquer the wind and shot a +2 round for a tournament best +1 overall. SAIT rounded out the rest of the podium with Regan Colberg shooting a second round +5 for an overall score of +4 and Jaden Patel shooting a second round +3 for an overall score of +7. On the team side, SAIT came away in the top spot with an overall score of +51 with Concordia posting a second place score of +68. The top three was capped off with MHC coming in 3rd with a score of +87. 

On the women's side Ella Gifford (CUE) went back-to-back weekends as the top golfer shooting a +11 second round for a total score of +21. Kristine Dixon (SAIT) came away with second place shooting a second round +15 for a final score of +31. Rounding out the top three was Libby Bourassa (2nd year, Medicine Hat, AB, UT Science) (MHC) came away with a second round +15 for a regional event +34. In the team event Concordia came away with the win posting a +65. SAIT & MHC came in tied for second with team scores of +80.


Rattlers Womens Soccer gets shutout win; Men get shutout by Lions

In Calgary the Rattlers women's soccer team took home 3 points against the Ambrose Lions coming away with three points on the road. Maísa Rebello (4th year, Rio de Janeiro, Business) lead the way with two goals while Keandra Leslie (1st year, Kingston, Jamaica, UT Science) and Molly Morris (3rd year, Moose Jaw, SK, Education) each notched a single goal in the win. Goalkeeper Rylan Morhart (1st year, Moose Jaw, SK, General Studies) got her first win and shutout of the year. 

The men came away disappointed following a 2-0 loss to the Ambrose Lions. Noah Scholly (1st year, Medicine Hat, AB, Nursing) & Maksymilian Slaweta (2nd year, Bydgoszcz, Poland, General Studies) split the game between the pipes with each allowing one goal in 45 minutes of play. 

The teams are preserving for a tough upcoming weekend travelling to SAIT on Saturday and rivals Lethbridge College pay a visit MHC on Sunday afternoon. 


Ross leads the way at Grand Prix #2; Scrimger gets third; Men 4th overall

Rattlers runner Becky Ross (2nd year, Medicine Hat, AB, Nursing) and her teammates were in Calgary on Saturday contesting ACAC #2 – the Jordan Fish Open at West Confederation Park. As she did last week, Ross topped the field of college runners, recording a time of 23:57 in hot conditions over a rolling 6 km course.

Maddy Scrimger (2nd year, Harrogate, England, Nursing) also put in a strong run, getting her second podium placement of the season. She finished third, 50 seconds behind Ross. Other Rattlers women taking part included Pyper Gill (3rd year, Red Deer, AB, Paramedic) (16th ), Mizuki Iwata (1st year, Ichihara, Japan, Business Administration) (20th), Annika Marshall (2nd year, Saskatoon, SK, Nursing) (31st), and Kabri Stickel (1st year, Medicine Hat, AB, Upgrading) (33rd). Inclusive education runner Joanne Gonzales completed 4 km of the course.

Collectively, the MHC women were second behind Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP). Lethbridge College was third.

In the men's 8 km race, the Rattlers equalled their best-ever placing in a full-field ACAC race by finishing in fourth place. Veterans Harrison Lawson (2nd year, Medicine Hat, AB, Nursing) and Shintaro Iwata (3rd year, Nagoya, Japan, Business) were the top MHC runners placing 17th and 19th respectively.. Justin Jager (2nd year, Dunmore, AB, UT Science) (22nd), Jaiden Romaniuk (3rd year, Westlock, AB, Nursing) (23rd), Tristan Scrimger (1st year, Medicine Hat, AB, General Studies) (26th), Gage Smith (2nd year, Medicine Hat, AB, UT Science)(32nd), and Jon McKinley (1st year, Medicine Hat, AB, UT Science) (38th) were the other MHC finishers. Rookie Spencer Wilson (1st year, Moose Jaw, SK, Environmental Reclamation), who is dealing with knee injury, completed the first 5 kms of the race.


Women's Basketball falls to edge Prep in Exhibition 

On Friday night the women's basketball team played host to the Edge Prep school out of Calgary and fell 64-50. In a rematch on Saturday, Edge took the game by a score of 75-63. 


Women's Hockey drops Two to Lakeland

Our Women's Hockey team travelled to Lloydminster for two exhibition games this past weekend. Unfortunately, a slew of bad penalties in the second period in the first game cost us as we fell 10-0 to the Rustlers. The team shook it off and played the second game on Saturday but ultimately fell 2-0 to the same Rustlers.

The inaugural home opener for the team is scheduled for Saturday, October 7th at 7:45pm at the Moose Rec Centre.


Women's Volleyball Falls to Briercrest in Exhibition 

Our women's volleyball team crossed provincial border and took on the Clippers on Friday night. We fell 4-0 (26-24, 25-23, 25-14, 25-18) and will take on those same Clippers in the season opener in just over a month.
