Rattlers 22/23 Season Recap- Basketball

Men's Basketball

Record: 9-12; 5th in South Division

Playoffs: Lost to Red Deer in play-in game

The men's basketball team came flying out of the gates this season going 8-2 in the Fall Semester with losses only coming to the eventual CCAA gold medalist, SAIT, and NAIT that semester. The same could not be said in the second semester as the results did not carryover and the men fell down the standings. In a do-or-die play-in game the men fell to Red Deer which ended their season much too early for the team. The team was led by ACAC 1st Team All-Conference player Cooper Ward (Ipswich, AUS | 3rd Year | Sport & Event Marketing & Management) with 25.6 points/game and 12.3 rebounds/game which led the league in both categories. The team was also highlighted by two other Australians- Jordan Biggar (Toowoomba, AUS | 2nd year | General Studies) & Ethan Robinson (Ipswich, AUS | 1st year | Sport & Event Marketing & Management)- who put up 16.8pts/game & 6.2 rebounds/game and 13 points/game and 3.9 rebounds/game respectively. Ethan was also recognized as the ACAC South Male Rookie of the Year.

Women's Basketball

Record: 0-21; 8th in South Division

Playoffs: Did not Qualify

The women's basketball team was a season designed for growth and development as the team was made up of primarily first year players who were expected to take on large roles on the team. Throughout the season many players took big strides in their development which should lead to a better and more successful season on the court next year. The team was led by Brynn Bremner (Brooks, AB | 1st year | General Studies) who averaged 7.7 points/game to go along with 2.0 assists/game. Kirstie Johnstone (Moose Jaw, SK | 3rd year | U.T. Kinesiology) chipped in with 6.5 points/game and Sheridan George (Fort MacLeod, AB | 2nd year | U.T. Education) added 5.9 points/game.
