Weekend Recap - Sept 21-22

Cross Country Running (XCR)


Rattlers runner Maddie Scrimger secured her second consecutive ACAC cross country victory on Saturday, claiming the top spot in ACAC Race 3 – The Run for the Pumpkin, held in Lethbridge. Scrimger strategically paced herself, passing the 2 km mark in third place before surging ahead in the final 4 km to finish with a 6 km time of 25:52, a full 36 seconds ahead of Lethbridge Polytechnic’s Hannah Pilling.

The Rattlers women's team had a strong showing with four other athletes participating. Ellie Barlow finished 14th, Aki Iwata placed 18th, Hannah Ulm came in 23rd, and Addison Weir secured 25th place. Collectively, the Rattlers women’s team placed third overall, behind Red Deer Polytechnic and Lethbridge Polytechnic.

In the men’s 8 km race, the Rattlers achieved one of their best team finishes in recent years, securing fourth place. SAIT took the overall win, followed by Lethbridge Polytechnic and Red Deer Polytechnic. MHC was led by rookie Askia Tahirou, who finished 10th. Other Rattlers finishers included Spencer Wilson (21st), Elijah Lavoie-Pierzchala (23rd), Gage Smith (24th), Taylor Rumberg (28th), and Griffin Goodfellow (32nd).

The next competition for the Rattlers cross country runners will be ACAC Race 4, set for next weekend in Calgary.


 

Women’s Soccer 


The Rattlers women’s soccer team had a split weekend, starting with a commanding 3-0 victory at home against the Augustana Vikings. The goals were scored by #2 Alexis Ratke, assisted by #19 Olivia Bender, followed by another from Ratke unassisted, and a third goal from Ratke, assisted by #10 Keandra Leslie.

On Sunday, the team faced the Ambrose Lions on the road, where they suffered a narrow 2-1 loss. The Rattlers' lone goal came from #5 Ariana Drydale, assisted by #10 Keandra Leslie. Ambrose clinched the win with a last-minute goal at the 90-minute mark.

 


 

Men’s Soccer 


The men’s soccer team finished their match against the Ambrose Lions with a hard-fought 3-3 draw. Goals for the Rattlers were scored by #8 Tata Mugisha, assisted by #10 Joao Nascimento, #7 Joao Cintra (unassisted), and #12 Joel Lehr, assisted by #20 Ashraf Ismail.

The Rattlers dominated with 29 shots, 19 of which were on target, but only managed to convert three into goals.

 


 

Golf


In the final day of the ACAC Golf Championships, Rattlers standout Michael Valk is leading the leaderboard in men’s individual competition. If the standings hold, Valk will secure back-to-back gold medals in men’s golf. On the women’s side, Taryn Sanderson is leading the Rattlers, currently in 5th place in women’s individual competition.
